The book is based on the lectures that Ignacio has been teaching in the graduate level course “Advanced Process Systems Engineering.” The book provides a comprehensive overview of basic and advanced concepts of optimization theory and methods. The book consists of 15 chapters, and covers continuous, discrete, and logic optimization (linear, nonlinear, mixed-integer and generalized disjunctive programming), as well as optimization under uncertainty (stochastic programming, flexibility analysis) and decomposition techniques (Lagrangean, Benders decomposition). Basic theoretical concepts are emphasized, as well as basic ideas behind the solution algorithms. The book is also unique in that it emphasizes topics related to modelling of various types of optimization problems.
